5 Delicious "Dalgona"-Inspired Drinks To Make At Home
Share
If you’ve been on the social (because where else would you be during quarantine), you know that the frothy “Dalgona” coffee is trending. Dalgona coffee is popularized in South Korea- a spongy toffee candy that's made by heating sugar, oil, and baking soda. Once mixed to a thick and fluffy consistency and left to harden, it becomes a sweet, delicious treat. As an avid café goer, the close down of all cafés in my city in response to help flatten the curve of COVID-19 had me looking for an alternative experience at home. The easy recipe and method of the Dalgona Coffee had me running to my kitchen to try it immediately. It requires only 3 ingredients to make the froth: instant coffee + sugar + hot water in equal parts; and hand mixed vigorously or “400 times” (according to some Youtube videos) to reach a thick frothy consistency. Then, served on a top of a glass of milk with ice. However, after attempting it by manually hand-mixing the first time, I concluded that I did not have the arm endurance for it and opted for an electric hand-mixer instead (10/10 recommend this method if you own one).
Amid my research on this drink, I found other delicious variables of the Dalgona Coffee which will hopefully inspire you to make them (as they did to me) and satisfy your café drink cravings.

Here’s another way to do it. In the video, she added water into her mixture, but I don’t think it is necessary:
Milo/Ovaltine Dalgona Latte
3 tbsp heavy cream
4-5 tbsp Milo/Ovaltine powder
2 tbsp white sugar
Whip heavy cream
Add Milo/Ovaltine powder and sugar.
Mix well until thick and frothy.
Serve on top of a glass of milk (ice optional).
Thai Tea Dalgona Latte

2 tbsp hot water
Combine instant thai tea powder, sugar, and hot water in a bowl. Hand mix or use an electric mixer until thick and frothy.

You can be as creative as you want with these recipes like adding toppings or combining different powders together, that’s the fun of making these drinks. Stay safe, and happy mixing!
